XOÁN CARLOS GIL |
A slight blimp on what has otherwise been
an incredible year for Celta. In a game with nice football but few chances
created, Celta were unable to break down a stubborn Athletic defence. Raul
Garcia was able to capitalize on Orellana’s error to give the visitors the
three points in what was a very even game between two good teams.
Augusto waved goodbye to Balaídos in what
was his last appearance for Celta before his departure to Atletico de Madrid. He
has been a crucial part of this team since his arrival and although I would
have preferred for him to stay until at least the end of the season, he has
earned his move in these past 3 ½ seasons at the club. Now the challenge is to
replace such an important player. Kranevitter seems to be more or less ruled
out while Romeu and Romero are the early frontrunners. Torrecilla will have a
difficult task on his hands but I am confident that he will succeed again. Step
forward Hugo Mallo, our new captain.
4-1 against Barcelona, 2-0 vs Deportivo,
the return of Iago Aspas and 8th position in Berizzo’s first season.
2015 has been a year to remember for Celta and has given us a strong foundation
to make 2016 even more successful by qualifying for European football next
season. The priority going into January must be to retain our key players such
as Nolito, as well as Toto Berizzo whose contract expires this summer. If we
can do this we should see further improvement on what has been an excellent
2015 in the year ahead.
Next week we travel to La Rosaleda to face
a Malaga side who have improved from their dreadful, uninspiring ways in recent
weeks. It will likely be a tight game with few chances but this presents us
with a great opportunity to start the year on a high and make a real push for
European football, possibly even Champions League with a slice of luck.
Best
regards and come on Celta!
¡Saludos y Hala Celta!
¡Saudos e Ala Celta!
