MARTA G. BREA |
Another game, another win. Celta helped
themselves to 3 more points against an unlucky Rayo side. Goals from Nolito
(11, 50) and Fontas with his first in the Sky Blue (88) ensured a relatively
comfortable win against a brave Rayo team hampered by Toño's early red card.
One thing that we have learned early on in
the season is that there has been a distinct change in the style of play. Last
season, most of our attacks went through the midfield and Michael Krohn Dehli
whereas this season the balls are reaching Nolito and Orellana much quicker
than before. I see clear similarities with what has happened with Barcelona
under Luis Enrique. The Rakitic era relies more on fast, skillful players
rather than the control of Xavi. Maybe we are seeing the first steps to this
with Daniel Wass preferring to play vertical balls to the wide men. I am not
saying this is for better or for worse, just different but it will be
interesting to see whether this style remains and is successful.
One thing Daniel Wass does bring to this
team is pace from midfield. His willingness to run beyond Aspas to win the
penalty is something that will help us break teams down this season as he
creates more space for the strikers to operate in. The adaptation of Augusto into
a holding midfield player will give him the freedom to support the attacks
whilst remaining disciplined to not leave us too open in midfield. Something that Berizzo may do this season is
use Wass as the enganche (Tucu’s position) in the bigger games. This will make
us more solid in midfield with Radoja while giving us the pace and creativity
of Wass to link with the attack.
As the transfer window is nearly closed I
think that we can all be happy that Nolito is still scoring goals at Balaidos.
There have been times in the last few weeks when it looked like he was almost
certain to go back to los blaugranas and we can only be grateful that a player
with his ability is now more likely than ever to stay. He is still not at his
very best but I am confident that his match sharpness will come back before you
can say "Del Bosque Nolito Seleccion" but in the meantime, two goals
and one assist will do very nicely indeed.
So as we are at least momentarily at the
top of the league at the time of writing the sensations looking back to our
first two games can only be positive ones. Las Palmas at Balaidos after the
international break will see the return of Paco Herrera and present an
excellent opportunity to win three games out of three before going into more
challenging fixtures versus Sevilla and Barcelona.
¡Saludos y Hala Celta!
