Three defeats in a row with no goals scored, not the way you would want to start the New Year. Griezmann opened the scoring just after half time to put the visitors ahead before substitute Y.F. Carrasco doubled the lead in the final ten minutes of the game. Celta were unable to create any real chances against a stubborn Atletico defence in what was a relatively below-par performance.
The lack of Nolito is really starting to hit home now. The abundance of goals scoring chances that he creates is something that we have sorely missed in recent weeks during his absence. The task of linking the midfield to the attack to create chances has been unsuccessfully left solely on the shoulders of Orellana. Hopefully he will be back next week so that we can return to winning ways against Levante.
Wednesday’s game against Cádiz should be a relatively comfortable one due to our comprehensive first leg win. It will give Toto Berizzo the opportunity to give the likes of Alende, Pape and Borja the chance to impress and show their worth to the team. It will also be a big opportunity for Drazic to prove that he has the capability to compete for his place in the league.
Next week we face Levante at Balaídos in a game that we must be looking to win. Nolito being available will be a massive bonus to us and could prove to be the difference in collecting the three points. Optimistically we will see a signing or two, especially a replacement for Augusto that can begin to integrate into the team and fill the gap that currently exists.
